Can someone help me out with the transmission input shaft spline diameter? 3 speed trans. Number on the tailshaft is 1A-7651-A, the side cover is 1A-7222. Its a 10 spline. Thanks,Mike
It should be the 1 inch 10-spline. Mercs kept the 1 3/8" ten spline till mid 51 production then they went to 1" 10-spline too. Fords were 1" 10-spline from 49 to at least 53. I can't remember when the main inputs got bigger. Kerby
Those are 1951 part numbers. Basically the same guts up thru 1954 on the Ford passenger cars. It would have the 1" dia 10 spline input shaft. Mac VP VANPELT PARTS & SERVICE Cincinnati, Ohio www.flatheadv8.com
Do yourself a favor and get a $20 dial caliper. It could become your favorite tool. If you keep them handy you will find that it is easier to measure things like bolt heads than to fish for sockets.
Ford used a 9 1/2" Long type clutch for the passenger 3-speeds. You can try Fort Wayne clutch. That clutch was more common that some. It should be available. Some trucks used a 10 inch Long type but it was 1 3/8" 10 spline. No 10 1/2 inchers on 8BA flatheads Kerby
Biggest clutch I see in my 49-51 manual is 10"..Used in Police Cars and Taxi Cabs...Disc 8BAS-7550-B...Pressure Plate 19A-7563-A...You can use a smaller disc than Pressure plate dia..1" x 10 spline..
