Flathead to Lasalle-Need Clutch Disc 9"/1" 10 Spline

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Nov 10, 2012.

  1. Mating a '38 Lasalle trans up to our 59A Flathead, and it looks like I need a 9" clutch disc, but with a 1" 10 spline center to fit over the Cad input shaft, smaller then the 1 1/8" per standard Ford. Any idea where I can get one??? Thanks,

  3. Are you sure its a LaSalle tranny??..did you measure the input spline correctly?
1" 10 spline is not correct for a LaSalle.

  4. I'll double check it at the shop, but I have a 10" disc here that I know fits it, and the diameter is smaller then the 1 1/8" Ford, looks like 1" across. The 1 1/8" fits on but is way too sloppy, pretty sure it's not 1 1/4"?? It's smaller than the Ford...

Once again- Caddy and Lasalle trannies of that era are all 1-1/4" 10 spline.

Some early Fords, 50's pickups I think, had 1-3/8" ten spline- you sure that isn't the disc you have?

Take a 1-1/4 wrench, and see how it fits on the splines of the shaft. I'll bet you it fits, but the 1" wrench will not.

38Flattie - thanks for the info!

  8. 38Flattie- you are probably right, I bet I'm measuring wrong, that would make sense. I'll check tomorrow but I'm sure that's it, so I need a 9" disc with a 1 1/4" 10 spline. The trans IS a '38 Cad/LaSalle.

If you have a clutch that fits send it to Fort Wayne Clutch, http://www.fortwayneclutch.com/

After many moons of looking for a pressure plate and clutch for my 38 I sent the old ones to them. Took about a week, got a great rebuilt clutch and pressure plate back, cost was around $180 for both.
