Flathead Pontiac

I have a flathead 6 in my 54 pathfinder. What are other names for these flatheads? I am looking for information that will help me understand how they work, and how I can fix/speed/maintain them. I have some maintenance manuals and a couple locals for questions - but i am so damn green, I have questions every day. I cannot afford to buy that much beer for my question answerers.

If there are other names for pontiac flatheads, or popular/inexpensive setups, please let me know.

Please post pics of your flathead and any info about speed parts (2x2 intakes, exhaust setups, and 6 volt systems). I am not looking to turbo it or do anything wild - I just want to understand it.

Do a search there are a few posts on these engines.
Best money spent is a manual(hardcopy or CD).
Change the oil regulary and she will serve you well.
Mine is standard cept for 40thou(1mm) off the head.
Runs very smooth but aint no power house.
I put a 56 poncho centre(3.63:1) the old one was 4.11:1-freeway killer.
