I am going to do a little more exploring and see what else I can find out about it. All I know as of now is that it turns.

One of my 8BA's was a power unit of some sort, no fuel pump so gravity-feed. They used to use them in wind machines, probably where it came from considering the location

:D As of 1985,a friend in Florida with a citrus operation had 4 flatty powered welders that were in use almost daily. He had "0" complaints about them.As far as I know,he is still using them.
    Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.

Do a cosmetic restoration and keep it intact. Tow it behind your rod. That thing is cool!

I got one out of the scrapyard a few months ago that ran a generator. A couple of weeks later I found a edmunds dual intake with carbs

Nice score, I nabbed one a few summers ago out of an old road grader when we tore it down we found a 4" stroke crank in it I hope your find is as rewarding

I'm going to try to work on it this weekend.
I haven't been around flatheads before. Where do you guys suggest I start? I don't want to screw anything up. I'm anxious to try to get this thing going!!

Maybe check the oil in it and ask around first before you test it with a pipe wrench but if it turns over then im guessing it is fine. I am no expert either but I would check the simple things. Check if it has spark. I wouldn't think you would ruin anything if you checked those things first.

Anybody interested in buying this flathead welder? I wanted to use it badly but don't have the time to dig into it and thought maybe somebody would like to buy it and be able to use it.
If interested let me know here or pm me.
    Thanks!

i just bought a flathead powered welder at auction. Looks home made? The front and rear axle are ford, wheels are from a ‘37-‘39 ford so I’m guessing the rest is too. I bought it for the motor but is there any value in keeping it whole? What did you end up doing with yours?

I learned to weld on a homemade flathead welder. 21 stud on an angle iron skid out back of the shop hooked to a war surplus aircraft generator. Straight DC. There was a rod through the wall at the back of the shop that controlled the throttle. If you needed more heat you kicked the flattys speed up a bit. Worked great! A lot of water pipe roll cages for roundy cars built with it and I never remember a failed weld, (just everything else failed).

Shame to cut this up to source a relatively easy to acquire motor.

If its a WWII jeep motor its worth some dollars. Especially if it has a ford script carb.

Someone needs to find a v12 Lincoln to power the Lincoln, and tow it with a Lincoln, so you can have a Lincoln in your Lincoln, while Lincoln'.
