    Hi Rich

We will be testing 3 designs on the dyno and hope that at least one will work LOL

Have you tried Cometic gaskets? They make some pretty unusual gaskets and they work well.

  3. They have.

Constant exposure to high temp can cause two pieces of aluminum to bond together. This was a process that Kaiser uses to make clad aluminum. Perhaps the same thing could happen in an engine causing the gasket to adhere to the head.

SimonSez, I had a long chat with Mark -thank you!

Roy, it's possible, but I think it will be all right. We really won't know until we do some testing.

At the moment, everyone is thrashing to get the car ready for GNRS, where we will be in building 9.

Hope you all can come out and see us!

    Here's something pretty cool!

Backing into CD, using this calculator, http://purplesagetradingpost.com/sumner/bvillecar/bville-spreadsheet-index.html#HP%20needed%20for%20A%20Lakester ,and my fastest run of 189 MPH, I would estimate between a .4 and .45.

So, my HP needs look something like this:

    CD .4 .45 .5

    RWHP for 189 MPH 482 535 587

    RWHP for 201 MPH 571 635 698

This, of course, assumes my CD estimates are close!

HP Needed for a Specific Speed:
    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

    Input Rolling Resistance ======> .024 <== (Note:
    Input Car Weight =============> 5000
Input Frontal Area in Sq. Ft. ====> 24.00
Input Cd For Car Body Only====> 0.45
Input Velocity in MPH =========> 201

    Body Drag Force = 1064

HP for Rolling Resistance = 37 HP
HP Needed for Car Body = 598 HP
    HP For 4 Tires/wheels = HP

For this Speed = 201 MPH

Total RWHP Needed is = 635 HP

So, what's the point? The point is, 200 MPH becomes far more achievable when one looks at the HP needed!

Please don't take offense to this question. I have been both inspired and impressed with your perseverance (and I want to see you guys hit 200!). Why is your Cd so high? Is it due to large frontal area? I would think with all the streamlining you guys have done that your Cd would be lower? I have no experience in this, so I guess what I'm saying is that it must be WAY harder to lower Cd than I thought....Time for more nitro I guess :)

No offense taken-it's a very good question!

We could easily lower the CD, if not for the rules, and the fact that we want to run in multiple classes.

One example is, in altered class, we are limited to a 3" chop. If we wanted to only run in comp coupe, we could chop it until we only had a 7" windshield height.

The biggest limiting factor is we can only make body mods from the cowl forward. When looking at aero, how the car enters the air is important, but equally or more important is how the air leaves the car. If we could slant the windshield back, cover the back wheels, etc., we could vastly improve our CD.

Still, at the end of the day, I'm pleased that we've achieved that low of a CD. Looking at the HP numbers, now 200 MPH is more than just a dream-it's a doable reality!

Here is what HP numbers would look like with a .35 CD, which is ulimately our goal:

Wow. That's a pretty significant improvement! Out of curiosity, do you know what the Cd is in stock form? Thanks for posting that info above.

No, not exactly, but based on the configuration we have been running, and the results, I'd estimate about a .55, with no front fenders.

Buddy, I spent a little time today and finally got this 346 pulled out of my Cadillac. It's laying on the floor in my shed, and I'll tear it down to a bare block in the next couple of weeks. If you are still looking for a spare this one is yours to pick up next time you're passing through Kansas City.

  14. Thanks - you know that once we get our hands on it . . . we tend to 'grind on em' just a bit! :D

Much appreciate the support and help.

  20. Hey Gang:

I've been working to figure out our new magneto setup - decided to 'step up' with the Big Boys and run a high-amp ProMag from MSD. This is the ProMag 20 setup . . . can handle any amount of fuel that we'll throw at it. This magneto uses a magnetic pickup - we can switch between the crank-trigger and the pickup in the generator.

These things are beasts! I can't even test it on my distributor machine - not enough HP to turn it. You can barely turn it by hand due to the super strong magnets.

Will put a different 'band clamp' base on it - Fowler makes what we need. One thing is for sure, you won't adjust the timing with bare hands on this sucker - will knock you into next week.

Yes that thing will zap ya really good D. I have tried a normal mag, and really funny feeling when everything goes black for a split second and you get some kind of a "pop" sound inside your head:D!?

  25. Awesome! This thing might just look TOO NICE to RACE . . . Buddy can hang around in his trendy cut-up tee-shirts, and sign autographs and shit - why I drink beer outta a fricking sippy cup! :)

Screw racing - just style points this year . . . whups, too much damn egg-nog, has me all screwed up! Better hit myself in the head with a big-ass yule log :)

Merry Christmas to all - have a wonderful time with family and those you care about. Hopefully we'll see a lot of you at the GNRS in January - 100 year anniversary of Bonneville.

    Cheers,

    B&S

What I am hoping is if the car looks really good it may make us forget about buddies attire

  27. It is going to have to win AMBR as a coupe for that to happen! Just kiddin yah Buddy! :)

  28. Okay - decided to not try to make any more of that stupide rhyme.

Here is the magneto mounted on the new billet base I picked up from Fowlers today - it is one purdy SOB . . . wish Santa had brought me the thing under the tree. I gave up part of my manhood to fund this beast :D - but from what everybody tells me, this sucker will really help us burn the alky and make horsepower. Also, it works with the ProGrid controller - so for the classes where we can run computerized timing control, we can run the same mag.

Nice stuff - kind of a Christmas present to myself and the FlatCad effort.

    Enjoy!

Who wants to put there tongue on it while I turn it over - come on, who is brave?
