Thinking about putting a flat head in my 30 model A.it currently has the stock Drive train. It has juice breaks, 1B9AF41F-E395-4BAC-939E-9E8FBAA5B5C5.jpeg F82B23F8-AD76-4092-9798-E72FA808AEE0.jpeg and has been lowered front and back I drive the car all the time around town. The question is,do I leave it alone?or do I put a flat head in it, what's your thoughts. 07B4951D-7D30-4C64-B4FA-CB183F67F3D4.jpeg

I would covert it to a t-5 tranny using the 4x4 t-5 and use the closed drive line. Around town driving would be greatly improved.

  4. It already has a flathead.;)

My buddy @Kim Strobeck did just that. Banger out, 8BA in. T-5 with open drive conversion. He can fill you in on the details. Kim to the white courtesy phone please.

    Beautiful car!
the two tone color really sets it apart. . I’d put a bad ass banger in it with an updated tranny.

I just built a closed drive T5 for an A with B motor in it. Used a AA hogshead with an adapter to the T5. Moser made a new shorter driveshaft for it. That was the second one they have done for me.

My avatar with the original 4 cyl will outrun the flathead V8 you want to put in your car.

It's a very nice looking car. A flathead would more than double the horsepower. Depends on what you want.

Nice looking coupe you have. When you get tired of the stock engine, slip in a nice v-8 flathead. HFH.

Put a 392 Chrysler Hemi with an 8-71 blower on it..! A 6spd. trans., would be a good addition too.

It's YOUR...car. YOU...put what engine that YOU want, in it..!

Beautiful coupe you have there! You could hop up your banger a little for less money and effort. If you put the flathead in there I would also suggest an S10 5 speed open drive line conversion. Of course that would require some additional frame modifications. The gear ratio in the S10 5 speed with a 350 rear gear is a great combination for a flathead powered car. Do what makes you happy and makes you excited about driving the car!:)

My avatar had a V8 60 and my 30 pickup with a counter balanced banger with a high compression head would out run it until it ran out of rpm's. My 30 Sport Coupe has a hopped up 8BA flathead and is way quicker but has a small fortune in it. The banger is fine up to 50-55 mph and then you're pushing your luck if you push it too far so great to run around town. There are a lot of performance parts for the stock engine, high compression heads, down draft intakes, centrifugal advance distributors, headers and it will do what you want without seeing another one like next to it.
Look up Secrets of Speed and F.A.S.T. (Ford A speed and Technology) they have a lot of information on the banger.

A 392 with an 8-71 (or whatever is in there) and no front brakes sounds like a death wish to me.

Tardel has a book that walks you through putting a flathead in a model A. Maybe pick that up and see if it’s something you want to do.

But if the rear brakes fail for whatever reason you'd have a great chance at making that decision for somebody else who never gave you the authority!

[IMG]Thousands of A Coupes out there, how come this one looks so much better? No bumpers? I might even change my opinion on white walls. Keep the Banger, ad an overhead or upgrade the transmission.

    Beautiful car !

a flathead V8 or an hopped up 4 cyl, both are cool in their own way.
Personally I would go with the V 8.

Not that you asked, and just a suggestion:
paint wise, to make it look more like a hot rod and not an original as it does now, you have 3 options,
all black, - all silver, - body all silver and black guards.

    Nice car!

I put a T5 behind my Banger-powered Model A coupe and it made a world of difference. So much so that I sold the engine and rearend that I pulled from my stock '40 Ford coupe and was planning to put into the 'A'. The work that it would take to do the V8 swap just didn't seem worthwhile after the trans upgrade.

I have a high-compression head, electronic ignition (Pertronix), lightened flywheel, and Model B carb with port-matched intake. Really helps to wake up the Banger engine. For as many ball-aches as I've had going through the car, converting it to a V8 is not even in the cards anymore.

Yup, suicide can turn to homicide, in an instant. If he does survive, and someone else does not, that could be a prison sentence, as the car was built that way, on purpose.

Also, in the event that even a minor accident occurs and the insurance adjuster sees that, coverage will be instantly dropped.

What about the 99% of the other drivers who have NO respect. It's them that I worry about. LOL

You can leave a car length or ten between you and the car you're following, until some tool decides to close up the gap in an instant and slams on the brakes. Then there goes that respect.
