Laid the fresh from machine shop crank in my 8cm block, after being washed. I can't lay my hands on my f/h info,so here is the question . The clean out plugs ,34of them are supposed to have plugs in them Correct? What size are they. I remember them being small press in plugs. Merc crank.

    Thanks,

    jim

There should be four of em. Small for Ford, bigger for Mercury. Still made by Dorman, available lots of places.

  4. You might start with a5/8" one. That # seems to stick in my feeble brain. There are some guys that thread the hole & use a hex plug w/thread locker.

I got the numbers here or at Ford Barn, I'll return the favor: Ford is Dorman 555-001, Merc is Dorman 555-010. I googled the 001, something like 13/32" The Merc ones look like about 5/8".

So I guess Ford would look something like 3/8" at first glance.

  10. When you put the plugs in, make sure you take a punch and "peen" around the edge (2 - 4 places) of the cast iron to help hold the plugs in. I've blown them out before when I didn't do this - causing a massive oil pressure leak. Luckily I caught it before I ruined my bearings.
