So after some discussion with Russell I realized that even if I had the right spring which I am not sure I do yet I am not giving the hanger any room to swing around. So I made new hangers. Now the way I did it is a lesson in how to overshoot your build budget by a mile. I am lucky I don't have to pay to use our Wire EDM machine here at the shop other wise these would have been the most expensive spring hangers in the world. I cut a couple out 1/2" think then tried to bend them 45* to allow for some swing but no matter what I tried (heat/pressure) I either cracked the material or the back side stretched way too much to make me feel comfortable. So here is the final product. You can see first I made a pass to cut the 45* bend out of 4" think steel. then I flipped it and cut the perimeter to the shape I wanted. I am not sure what we would charge to do this for someone else but I am pretty sure the answer would be no thanks when they got the price. Oh well at least I am not trying to build this to flip it for a profit, or build it for a customer... I would be in big trouble. But I think they came out pretty sweet!
Great job Kev, boy I am sure there would be some folks out there just happy to have the waste from that perch cut out. I am sure that perch design will work a treat.
Well I FINALLY SOLD MY BIKE, so the hot rod fund has been replenished. Time to dust the cob webs off of this thread and get the momentum rolling again. Sorry for the huge delays but money talks.
It looks good to me all around. You commented earlier about grinding off welds. If you plan on racing the car, check on the rules before grinding off any welds on suspension and structural parts. Some racing venues do not allow it. SCTA for one. I think we have talked before about EDM stuff. Pete
Moving along at a snails pace but finally got a few things done. Got the disc brakes on the back (I know I know not traditional) At the next most intimidating stage I am starting in on the body. I will post a few more pics soon. I have been working on the sub floor and wheel wells . More to come I promise. I did get some crappy news about some cracks in my block but looks like Buddy is going to save the day. Oh that reminds me I am doing some fun Flat Cad Racing stuff but none of that can be shown yet... shhh it's a secret, but I am sure Buddy will show everything off when it is the right time.
<HR style="COLOR: #e5e5e5; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #e5e5e5" SIZE=1> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message --> Hey guys, don't forget that Kevin continued this build on another thread. Here it is: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=581919
Link didn't work. Good build. Those panel replacements above the doors are very good quality pieces and fit like a square peg in a round hole. They will take work with a shrinker/stretcher to make the fitment and shape correct. Hope fitment was adjusted and checked before tack welds. The manufacturer can only build them well to a point. The builder has to have the ability to make it fit. If body wood is to be included, same story. FYI.
