A month or so ago I posted a thread on the dash I flaked (here). It turned out so well, that my wife wanted the roof done as well. Even though the car needs some more bodywork, the roof was in good shape, so why not......right?:)

First primed the roof and layed down 3 coats of Azure Blue metallic, a Toyota/Lexus color I had left over from another project. I then mixed up some HOK intercoat clear (SG100) mixed with Roth Mini BadAzz Blue flake, and dusted on @ 4 coats.....followed by straight clear. Wait a day....wetsand, and begin layin' out the panels....

    Killer paint "booth", eh?

Once the panels were masked off, it was time to lay the lace over 'em.

I then mixed up more intercoat with some HOK Oriental Blue Candy intesifier and dusted a few coats over the lace, fogging the candy inwards.....then I removed the lace and shot straight clear, with more candy, just along the panel edges.....
Here I'm removing the tape after that step...

Now.....the only masking left on the roof is the double outline of each panel.....in which a quick coat of candy was applied to add more "shading"...

I then removed the tapelines and started shooting straight clear (5 coats)......this is where it starts looking really good!

You can see that the top still looks rough.....it is! I waited a few days, then wetsanded the top, then remask and apply 4 more coats of clear.

And here it is in the sun.....still going to wetsand with 2000 and buff. Hard to see the lace, in the pic.....it's just to damn bright! hahahaha....
But it looks really cool when walking around the car, as the lace pops "in and out"....if that makes sense...

Next on the list is to finish out the bodywork, and probably paint the car the same Azure Blue that the panel outlines are....it was going to be dark blue, but now that the top is done, dark blue ain't gonna look good. Will also do a fade, either candy blue or silver pearl along the body line...:D

Real Nice!!! I plan on trying to do some lace paint on the roof of my wagon. If it looks half as nice as your job I will be happy...you may already be doing it, but you could make some good coin custom painting other guys rides...

The first thing I see in your roof is that you are an artist! Even if I had the technical skills that you do (and I can only operate a rattle-can), I would never get the results you get.

    That is a beautiful job!

    Thanks again fellas......means alot......really.

That's wicked Linez! Love the endless line work.....

That's the plan down the road, to do motorcycle's, roof's, and maybe complete cars, as long as all the body work has already been done.;)......I recently painted a freind's 27 T in all black metalflake with a tad bit of colored flake....the whole PU...looks wild.:D

Not really......other "stuff" has taken priority. I did get all the bodywork done on the front clip and in primer. I've got 1/2 of a quarter panel to replace, just behind the driver's door, then fill all the trim holes in the doors......then it'll be ready to prime.:)

  29. How do you come up with this stuff? you've got mad skills, dude. I'm envious.
