My parents '62 Bel Air wagon. 235 with 3 speed on the column w/overdrive.
I tried to slow down for a corner by downshifting like I'd read about guys doing and nearly went in the ditch. I didn't know overdrives freewheeled unless locked out.

The first stick was a 49 IH pickup with a very non-syncro tranny.

57 Chevy drag car, 283, muncie, cheater slicks, not registered. It had class winner stickers from Maple Grove PA all over the side windows. It was my buddie's fathers car. We would take it out for rides before his father got home from work.

I was 16. Drove a '66 Ford Ranch wagon. 240 six, 3 on the tree, no PS. That was my Dad's DD. Told him I needed the wagon to haul a metal shop project home from school so he left it for me. I hopped in and drove it with no problems.

  18. A brand new at the time '68 Bug that my parents bought. The gearshift actually broke off while my mom was driving it. The car was a POS and was eventually traded in on a new '72 Ford.

1949 Chevy Grain Truck w/ 2 speed rear end when I was 14. Grandpa needed drivers, and I was old enough so I got a crash course in driving stick shift which was a pain with the 2 speed rear end.

    I was 13. :D

It made my older cousin jealous, but I don't think Grandpa thought he was responsible enough.

My dad's 1958 Willys M38A1 when I was 12. The seat wasn't adjustable, so I put a pillow behind me so I could reach the pedals.
