    ^^^oops, forgot to type anything
Take some old leather and a snap kit and make a cool cover for those chains. Like the image shown, heck make one for the wife while you at it.

@Tim Haven't really decided yet. Purser is hooking me up with some boxs for cross steer and I am going to yank an f1 box out of a buddy's yard art. We'll see which fits best and doesn't look too weird.

I'm looking for a driver's side sill plate. It's 1927 specific, so the bigger one. The one I have is a little too far gone and I'd like an original. I'll be at the hamb drags and could snag it if you're going. If you have one give me a shout.

Well the cowl steering is out. I drove many miles without issue but it always seemed a little "twitchy". A friend gave me an f1 box so I dove in.
    20191110_170038.jpg

It took awhile to get the box positioned, but I found the sweet spot. All I did was cut off one of the factory ears on the f1 box and drilled another hole closer to the column.

    20191113_142142.jpg

I picked up this boat steering wheel during the initial build. Time to bring it down from the rafters.

    20191113_142206.jpg

Sweet spot ended up being a couple inches behind and lower than factory A location.

    Holes filled.

  11. Seeing that makes me feel good... because it's pretty close to where I ended up drilling a new hole for my F1 box to mount! I started with an F1 box that had already been cut up though, so my mounting system is more complicated. I have a spare box that's uncut... I am going to re-evaluate and maybe go this direction instead.

Just waiting on a new box gasket, some corn head grease and the pitman arm. Then I'll be able to install the box for good and work on the column drop.

I'm not a small guy and having it mounted here gives me enough room to get in and out. As well as use the clutch pedal. Even able to use this larger diameter wheel.

Speaking of wheel, this boat one is keyed and the f1 shaft was splined, so I spiced in a tapered keyed snout. All back together now.

F1 box is in! This steering geometry looks about perfect so it should handle great. Just need to do the column drop now.

Pitman arm is an NOS 35-36 arm that I found online for under $20. Just heated it up and bent it to shape. Then I took a triangle file and cut the locating splines so that I could clock it right. I was able to cut down the previous drag link and re-thread the end instead of buying a new one.

You have learned all the tricks, Monkey! The old 'triangle file trick' occurred to me when I was 17, same setup as yours, nearly...Mine was a '32 frame, channeled body, and the F1 steering was dropped to go under the low dash.
I ended up with the triangle file...
Glad you're up on your geometry. Steering linkage looks 'ship shape'.

Thinking of that thread on Cowl Steering...Brings that Geometry Image to mind and yes I believe you have the Center line right through the money there...I have one question about what I see and it could be just the Angle...

Is there potential for the wishbone to collide with the Steering Arm or Bolt when bouncing through road variations...I have a similar setup and I have some scuffing going on with mine that I have yet to address...and like yourself that entails some heat...

Obviously the further away from the axle you get, the less the travel will be but again that looks close...

@Stogy I was concerned about that too. I jumped up and down on the frame and couldn't get it to touch. I'm going to keep an eye on it though.

After looking at a bunch of different years for the column drop, I decided on 40 truck. It fits great!

    20191207_155643.jpg

Made this little patch for the dash. Broke the bottom to match the factory bend.

    20191208_111538.jpg

    20191208_111434.jpg

For the second mounting hole, I used some 3/4 angle welded as a bridge.

    20191208_183345.jpg

    20191208_184419.jpg

And tacked the face patch in. Everything will get fully welded when I pull the dash.

Also @Stogy he's basically gorilla sized so I’m gonna guess if it doesn’t hit when he jumps on it that it won’t ever hit

   ...:D

It's interesting Primates aside how much a pothole or more severely rough road, how many pounds are involved in those bounces. It may actually be Three Gorrillas...

I have hit a few memorable potential kingpin shearers and aside from thinking of the age of Henry's Finest taking it for all these years and hopefully continuing to do so..., I think of that pitman to drag link tie rod end contacting the Bones and it's chipped paint and scuffed but not grooved...

Guess he’ll find out. If it hits I guess he’s got his next project. I think it’s probably so light that most of his suspension is coming from what tire pressure he is running

My shocks are way too stiff too. They fit the length requirement but are made for a truck or something. Easy enough to reconfigure as problems arise. I was trying to keep from having a crazy S in the pitman arm to clear the bones, but I can always tweak it more.

I suppose you, @flatout51 and I could jump on it. That’s like two gorillas right?

in all honestly you’d have to drop that fucker off the Empire State Building loaded down with bricks and have it land on all four tires to get that suspension to compress more than an inch and a half. You’re likely just fine.
