A young guy here in Japan bought a clean Plymouth Coupe from the States a couple of years back but was keen to be a "hands-on" hot rodder. He chose to have a go at chopping the top himself, despite the quite difficult roof shape (aint no Model A). He took advice from an experienced metal man while doing it and I think for his first attempt at bodywork the result came out really quite well. Could so easily have messed it up big time, which would have been a shame, having already spent a fair bit on just acquiring the car in the first place - (the carson top option was always there in case of trouble however!)
    See what you think -

i'd say it came out ok. more than ok, in fact.

but the car sits up too high, especially in the rear, you need to fix that. :D

Wow. If my first chop comes out like that I'll be very happy. If it doesn't - I think I'll redo it. Is there a little bulge at the bottom of the rear window? would this be from the chop or bodywork?

    Like the car.

Very nice indeed! I think that we are spoiled here in the States where we have a plentiful supply of the most desirable cars...no one seems to want to spend the time on the "off-brands". You have shown us how nice even an old Plymouth can look given the proper attention, well done.

It still has the original six in it though I believe he may have fitted twin carbs. Has a straight through exhaust dumping out just under the front fender.
Frenz - Yeah its true I'm hoping to move back to UK (if I can find a job there this summer), but I'll still be visiting Japan regularly and hopefully taking in some car shows. Going to a rod run this Sunday so will try and post pics next week.

I look at this and I wonder why '40 Fords are so popular. This car has loads of art deco style. I would like to see it lowered in back with full wheel skirts. I NEED to finish up my '40 Chrysler NOW. Drove it around the shop a bit today.

Yummy, that thing has class. I wonder if those headlight bezels would work on a chevy pickem up. Hmmmmm.

So WHY EVEN waste the space to print it?
we read it, get NO THRILL FROM the ending.

Am I the only "dumb ass" that feels that way about these stupid posts with deleted pictures.?

That problem is caused by the lazy bastards that don't post photos directly to this site. After while those external photos are removed and the thread is useless. If they were posted here, they'd be here forever.
Thanks Cowboy for finding and posting them. Cool car.
