I bought my first car to start tinkering with, My son has been out and helped me ( as much as a 4 year old can with his plastic tools!) He gets just as excited as I do about going out to the garage to work. Currently, the body is going to stay the way it is, with the exception of structural things that need to be addressed. I have been doing some digging into the car, Things I'm certain of The engine is 350 from a 70's C30 Turbo 400 trans with TCI torque converter Briggs body Things I think it may be, original frame ( see note below about the school) 37 front spindles ( possibly the entire front assembly) Trying to Identify the rear axel Story goes This car ( frame and body) may have been originally chopped and built by a school in 1969. So I have to assume things on it were done with what they had. First Steps, 1. I have disassembled the front spindles, cleaned, prepped for new bearings and king pins. 2. Purchase disc brake conversion 3. I have C channel Boxing plates from Code504 http://www.code504.com/the-boxer-1928-1931-model-a-inner-channel-boxing-plates/ 4. Cut off the old ( bubble gum welded ) 4 link and rebuild with better quality. cut off all the added stuff to the frame for a fresh start 5. once its boxed get the engine trans in approximate location to weld in motor mounts and trans mounts 6. get all the brackets in place for rear 4 link After all that, 1. Steering ( i think it was originally set up for cross steer?) 2. find the best way to mount the body to the frame 3. mount brake pedal assembly 4. figure out floor situation I'm sure there are 10000 other things in each one of those categories but working on strengthening the frame for now and make it solid to the wheels.
Best of luck with the project! What are you thinking to do about the firewall? I wonder why someone did that?
I'm not sure unless it was bad.. or the plan was to move it further back? I'm on the hunt for one, doesn't need to be great as I'm going to have to cut it up to fit trans.
Dry fitting the boxing c- channels. Had to tickle the frame a little bit but so far so good. Sent from my SM-G955U using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
