I have to rebuild my Ford 302, and a new cam is included in the rebuild. I just want to optimize what I can, and the grind will most likely depend on what heads we go with, but I was curious if it would be worth changing the firing order. The HO and standard firing order have the same basic pattern, but flipped front to back. The only thing that I can find with a different pattern is the flathead/coyote engines firing order. I don't think it will make a huge difference, but is there something that puts one above the other?

    Standard 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
    H.O. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8
    Flathead 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2
Picture is standard at the far right, H.O., and then the flathead/coyote "pattern"

If this is in the wrong section I'm sorry, don't have much experience here 1584759427096.jpeg

The best firing order for even distribution is the LS Chevy. Which is a double swap big block Chevy firing order. Racers been using single, 4-7 swaps for years, and the double swap, 4-7 and 2-3 is even better. Call Comp cams. Probably a special order.

Is that not the same as the Ford H.O. order? The numbering system is different, but I think the pattern is the same
