    Mr. Montgomery,

It is very kind of you to have taken the time to respond and share your experiences in detail. When I started dreaming about speed modifications to my straight eight and looked up information about the topic your photos appeared. I was immediately intrigued and knew I needed to learn more about the history and person behind them. Never thought I would here from "the man under the hood" himself. What a treat! Christmas in October!.....Way cool. Many thanks!

I have to agree. It was a treat to read your answer about your Buick. When I was a kid I just couldn't understand why so many were racing a flathead engine that began life as a 239 inch motor. When their were 320 inch OHV motors all over in junk yards that no one wanted. I was always very interested when your car made it into a magazine that I saw.

Nieko,.hope you had a great thanksgiving! I too have been stock piling parts for winter projects. Picked up 51 263 with 37k on it and met a really cool HAMB'r named Gary who I bought it from. Getting close to during it up. Also got me a dual carb manifold for $242.00 with shipping. Good luck with the clutch project and let us know how it goes. I have to do one too so I am very interested in hearing about your project.

Wow, look at AK's IFS! Not traditional Ak! And what was this, nineteen-fifty-what?

I was once told that the Jaguar inline and the Buick are similar in stroke and bore, any truth to that?

Not much truth to that, R.H., if you're talking about the XK6, which ran from 1949-1992.
The Jag always had a larger bore to stroke ratio than the Buick, throughout. (RPM vs. torque).

Could you link us to that article, Rusty'?
I searched the site, but could not find it in their index.

You say, your car. Did the wife give it back to you?

Both were inline engines with long stroke and small bore. If you care about the gory details you could look up the relevant measurements.

I agree with your choice. Keep that cool engine.

What's the deal with pre 49 lifters being non compatable with a later hyd. cam?
Also, are there any solid lifters in any engine with same diameter?
    [this regarding 320 inline Buick.
    Thanks in advance.
