Does anyone know if the engine number is stamped anywhere on the frame of a 47 Chevy Truck? Just picked one up and the motor has been swapped but on the title it's vin is associated with the motor not the door tag.

  2. don't think Chevy ever had frame numbers, and wouldn't be motor no. anyway; it'd be vin no.

Must be re-titled. Vin is on the doorplate.

Original engine with same numbers as vin on title, I have been told by a few older guys , from a dealership I worked at that it was normal practice back then.

That's how they titled them back then they used the engine # as the vin on the title.. I had to take my 1940 chevy to Missouri State Highway Patrol , They looked my chevy over for Numbers. and they used the numbers on the floor tag on pass side..

If the number next to the distributor isn't the same than on the title or the door plate, I'd have it vin-verified. That's the only numbers you will find.
