I've been dreaming of someday owning a two door Merc for a long time. Problem was that I never could find one that was in my price range. I've known about this car for about 8 years but the guy was asking way too much for it. Fast forward to last week. I sold my 60 Cadillac and thought that I would give him a call to see if he would budge a little on the Merc and surprisingly, he accepted my offer. Paid the man for the car this morning and now it's mine. I think the plan will be kept pretty simple for a while. I'm hoping that I can get the original mechanicals sharpened up and do the body work as I go. Floors and trunk look very solid and from what I can tell, the rockers look good as well. The interior is shot but the seat springs look workable.
Congratulations! She looks nice and straight. I love those M E R C U R Y letters across the hood lip. Keep them. Way cool.
"Yeah, but now you have to change your hamb name to Merc-y-O Suddenly the world aint so sunny, is it?" Merc-y-O does have a nice ring to it.....now what to do with all these Cadillac parts ? <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
This is the one I'd love to get my hands on! Not a 2 door but a '49 just the same. Gotta love those Merc!!!
Say, they are recalling those - a factory recall ya'know...I'll have a truck swing by & pick it up. ha ha - enjoy!!!!!
Great score on an excellent starting point! Seems like 2009 is a good time to be looking for those long-time "wish list" cars, people are selling stuff a lot cheaper nowadays with the economy and all...
How about K.C. Douglas in 1949? And I hate to say it but we're losing old timers left and right. Caddy _O nice find...make sure you join Bad Bobs Merc club. ___Trout
My humble thanks to everyone. My wife's had me working around the house all weekend, so I haven't even had time to go pick the car up yet. One of the pleasures of owning an 80 year old house and having a wife that always has the TV set to HGTV or DIY network. As soon as I get it home, I'll post more pictures of the car for all you junkies.
