I've been brain storming how to make a Column drop shim that fits compound curve of the dash and the column drop from the cab over truck . So were gonna give this a try! I made a mold.

And the finished product. After I peeled it all apart and did some shaping and some glazing, it actually has a piece if ash inside .. So it's strong as hell..

A barley noticeable shim that looks almost factory

nice job on the column drop. BTW, good move sticking with the coupe body! I have seen that sedan a few times and it needs some serious work, not worth what he is asking.

I spent about 4 hours on the back window today . It's all trimmed in and smoothed out. It looks so damn good . Much better than I expected . Time to install the glass tomorrow !

i want it to be on the road and headed for my buddys house in north carolina by the second week of august. which is doable.. its mianly just body work now, a fuel tank, and the radiator mounting brackets.

the rest is basicly done, or i have the parts sitting there to be done.

the hardest part i am running into, is getting the body lined up with the hood, sidepanels, and grill.. my body doesnt seem to be sitting on the frame properly. which i can just make some different blocks.

You might check the body measurements from side to side I had a glass car I had trouble fitting the hood on once and it was longer on one side than the other so I had to cut the hood to get it to fit right with the grille hood and fenders to line up right. I know your not running fenders but you still gotta have it all line up right. I am confident you will get it right but just thought I would offer a bit of help from past experience

Hood looks fairly close judging by some of your earlier pics. Lay a couple of strips of 1/2" rope on ya cowl. That'll get hood up high enough. The grille is dropped same as channel I presume. Can you snap a pic to show exactly whats misaligned.

I managed to Atleast get my flywheel drilled. The motor was just test fit in the car..
So I broke out the scribe and some measuring devices. First, after a lot of measuring ,I laid it out on the flywheel . Then I drew the flywheel in auto cad with the ford pressure plate pattern. Then I plotted a template. I overlapped the two to verify my math was correct. Next it was off to the Bridgeport to drill and tap some 5/16-18 holes. I got them all done and bolted the pressure plate on. I herd from an older fella to stick it on an old bubble tire balancer to check it... So I stopped at a friends house and did just that.. It was perfect! So we should be good. Tomorrow I will be milling out my new pilot bushing and surface grinding the flywheel

Had a pilot bushing turned out on a Lathe. Solid brass. I've herd several guys complaining about speedway motors bushing adapter, so I just designed my own.

You can, however you don't have to. I have made several bushings out of bronze and or brass. As long as they have a good tolerance, they are fine. I got tired of breaking powdered metal bushings in my OT engine. So I had one made. It was highly recommended by my engine machine shop. And I trust his word.

I just went thru the same thing and agree with you on the solid brass bushing. I did/have used the Speedway bushing without a problem but dont have a ton of miles on it yet. Remember the only time the input shaft spins in the bushing is when the clutch is disengaged.

Nice job on your bushing by the way.

Ok.... Guys I ran into some trouble today.. I yanked the engine to install the flywheel , pilot bushing, and stuff...
Well little did I know , ford made a .625 diameter input shaft end, and the also made a .671... I spec'd out my bushing from speedway motors information... What they fail to tell you is the bushing they sell you, has two bores in it. One end is .671, and if you flip it around , it is .625..... I wish they woulda said that! So I'm gonna have to have a new one made.. What a bummer.. So if anyone needs a solid brass one, I happen to know a guy that has an extra one !

New pilot bushing was made today. .630 id, 1.450 long, 1.090 Od.. Polished the input shaft and it slid right on smooth. So the engine is in the car, the clutch works great !! I pick up my new intake tomorrow . Can't wait to get some pictures up of that baby!

Almost a shame to cover it up with a hood and side panels

  24. Looks way cool, you could just run the top. JW

  25. And early finned Corvette valve covers! Nice, for a NISB, that is. :D:D (Just kidding!)

I'd agree that just running the hood top would be cool, but rig it so you can easily go from nothing to top only to full hood as your mood and destination changes.

No finned stuff. All steel parts that are plain jane... And it's gonna get hood and side panels . They just look way to damn good on there

I filled all the valve cover holes since I'm running the factory lifter valley canister breather and I painted them up. Installed the hood rods and brackets for those. I'm going to put new studs in the exhaust manifolds tomorrow and get them bolted on all the way. Still looking at new progressive linkage kits. This setup had 2 carbs blocked off and the fuel fittings were soldered shut. So I changed all that so all 3 will run. What's the point of a tri power if they don't all work!
