A couple of posts have been offered on April dates that correspond with engine sizes so why not have members fill out the all the 400's. Must give what they came in. My five to start it off: 400--lots of cars, 401--Buick & AMC, 402--Chevy pickup, 403--Olds, 404--International, 406--Ford. Probably missed some and there are lots of bigger ones but this is a start. I can think of 409, 413, 421, 425, 426, 427, 428, 430, 440, 454, 460, 462, but those are the easy ones. Can others fill in the lessor known ones?
The 427 FE Ford actually displaced 425 ci., but Buick had just came out with one of those and the NASCAR displacement limit at the time was 427, so an executive decision was made to round up.... Gas Ford V8 Engines: FE: 406, 410, 427, 428 MEL: 410, 430, 462 385: 429, 460 335: 400 Super Duty: 401, 477 Some of the Lincoln V12's from the 30's displaced 400+ cubes. 1932 KB Series - 448 ci. 1934 KA Series - 414 ci. There are some real oddballs out there, especially when looking at trucks of the era. GMC's 401 and 478 ci V6's come to mind, IH Red Diamond inline 6's came in 401, 406, 450 ci varieties. IH also had truck V8's in the LV series of 401 and 461 ci, and the MV series of 404 and 446 ci. Then there is a whole host of old diesels as well that fall in the 400+ ci range, like any of 6 cylinder 71 Series (426 ci) and 8 cylinder 53 Series (424 ci) Detroits.
