Getting ready to order up tires and wheels for my car. Going to run 265/75R16 on the rear with a 7 inch rim with 4 3/4 back space which will fill the fender well and get the tire inside the fender. It is a 31 inch tall tire. Thinking I would like to run a 205/75R15 on the front with a 6 inch wheel which has 3 3/4 inch back spacing and fits over the Buick drums nicely. This tire is 27 inches tall. Anyone running this combo? Thoughts? Thanks, D

I don't think you can run that large of a tire and have a stance worthy of a fendered '32.
I'm running an Excelsior 5.00x16 on 16x4 wires on the Sedan and 3 Window
145x15 on 15x4 Wheelsmith Artillary on the 5 Window but it's really low.

A 205/75/15 tire on the front of a 32 is gonna look like an off roader.

I would suggest nothing larger than 165/15 on the front. That’s what I have on the front of my deuce sedan in white walls. With a super low car that has a 5” axle I would try 135/15. 205/15 will make it look like a tractor.

Thanks for the input fellas, hard for me to visualize without having one to mount up. Thinking about going to the tire store and get a couple of throw aways that I can mount on wheels and look at it that way. Going to get DB tires and only can afford to do it once! D

When I am thinking about tire sizes I look around at the tires on similar cars at shows. There's no better way to gain experience than letting somebody else pay for it. Find an example of what you like, and copy that size.

I suggest you check out tiresize.com which not only will compare tires; it will show you just WHO makes that particular size and the price.. very useful info.

You might compare your rear tire with 235/85 r16 which is the same height but a more narrow tire. ie yours is 10.4" wide and the 235/85 is only 9.3" which will give you more inside fenderwell clearance.

As to front tire size, I normally run 195/65 r15 an about everything. I normally use 235/75 r15 on the rear unless I need to fill more of the wheel well.

    Hope this helps,

    Al

I doubt that tire will fit in the rear fender and that is not a traditional size or traditional looking tire.

Too big for the front, 185/65 would be the biggest I would go, especially with a 6 inch wide rim. You would be better off with a 5 inch wide rim on the front and a 6 inch wide on the back.

  14. I like a little bit of meat on the front just in case you have to beak hard in water, gravel or whatever.

165r15 is a common size that’s not pricey. On a 5 to 6 wheel they look good. My deuce Sedan that’s a fendered car runs a 175/70r14 which is another option. But, of course that means you need a 14” wheel.

Ended up going with 245/75R16 on a 7 inch wheel in the rear and 185/65R15 on a 5 inch wheel in the front. Max backspace on both front and rear wheels from Wheelsmith. Cross section on the 265 was to much to clear the inner fender. I wanted to run it to get the 31 inch tall tire, but failing that, I went with the 185 in the front as it was a 1/2 inch shorter to get the rake back. Thanks for the input from those that responded to help out. D
