Hello, to you. My X and my son always bust my chops about buying stuff off Clist. "You are always buying stuff from the back of a guys truck in some alley"etc. I had good luck buying and selling there. A few days ago I posted a thread here about a gm steering column and parts. I've been thinking of replacing/fixing this column I had for my vannete project. Broken housing, disintegrated bearing, worn selector detent plate, turn signal housing moving everytime u turned your signals. Finally,I took it apart and fixed it, kinda, sorta, I "got her done". At the same time I kept an eye on Ebay, Clist and saw that people are very proud of their parts. A few days ago I found a post on C list for C10 parts. "Steering wheel and column with some cracks on wheel,40 bux" I told the guy if he'd take 30 for column only.. He said ok. "I live in Pahrump" -Sorry I live 40 miles away, that will turn into a more expensive column than I expected-I says. "where do you live?" -Las Vegas. "I work in Las Vegas,I could bring it to you we can meet somewhere there, Thursday around 3pm" -perfect. This man was very accommodating, said he was free so any time it would work,(after I told him that i forgot i picked my son from school at 3:15pm) I texted him after I got off if I could come over, he'd given me a location earlier, he said yes. I get there, well dress man, beautiful stranger, shook his hand, he tells me, "well,I thought the wheel was worth my asking price so I kept it and didnt think the column was worth anything so, you can have it,dont owe me anything" I tried to hand him his money, didnt take it. I insisted on at least buying a beer and he took just a bit to buy his friend a beer. Who does that? Take your time, get dirty, put the dirty part in the back of your nice truck, drive 40 miles, wait for some dirty assed guy and say:"here you go buddy, enjoy" He makes me want to be a better person from now on.
Btw, a bunch of youse have been really nice and helpful throughout the years, and we have busted our balls on an off, I thank you all, you know who you are. And because this thread is useless without pictures. The gift is the brown one.
Cool story! There are still good people out the there! I tell my wife dont let a few bad ones ruin how you think about everyone. Todd
Good on him, I have been known to hand some parts off to lend a hand or to help with this gearhead disease now a then.
Always like to see the good in people, but if you do me wrong there's no going back. Great story, thanks for sharing.
.........So very true. I'll give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but screw me over and that's the end. I'm a big fan of loyalty.
Pretty cool. My wife likes to tell me we have really nice friends. I tell her we have nice friends because we are nice friends. It might take a while to filter out the others, but it seems to work out in the end.
I have given parts away to people that would appreciate it. As my late friend, and fellow club member, Bob Juliano, would say, "Pay it forward", If you do, things will come around for you..
You know with all of the unsettling crap we see on the news everyday it was GREAT seeing a Feel Good Story for a change. Kudos to you brother!!!
