Out of the three Tri Five chevys which is your favorite? Which would you chose to build if you didn't have one? For me it would depend on what the car was being built for. If it was just for cruseing i'd pick an Aqua blue and white 56' with Torque Thrust mags on it like in the old American Racing wheels ad. If it was being built Gasser style I would go with a 55' but I've also seen a really nice Black and white 57' Bel Air with the Bel Air in gold letters I'd love too have.
I own a 57 two ten sedan. Because it is my favorite. But I do love a 57 Ford as well. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I have the same 55 now that I bought 35 years ago. But all these years later I have finally grown fond of the 57..building one now. My favorite? all of them
I forgot if you already own one of these cars or are working on one vote for that. Post pictures too please.
I still have dreams wherein I find my old '56 210 high school ride that I sold off thirty odd years ago. It's a dusty find out in my late father's old barn. Still runs, though. I hope to snag another one for enjoyment in my waking hours.
Can't get away from the sweep of the 56 quarter panel. the pretty wheel opening. 55's are tough, 57's are the ultimate expression of the tri-five, but the 56 has the best two tone ever, more restrained than the 57 with the sihlouette of the 55.They are the best looking Nomad, much better looking 4 door hard-top than the 57, and just flat out pretty. But that's just my opinion.
I've owned both 57's and 55. Back in the dark ages, when I was a teenager, I would have said a 57 with a 327 and 4 speed - NO QUESTION! but now days a 55 with radiused fender wells would be number one.
I'm working on 55 with a 348 w motor stroked with a 409 crank and building it to look pretty factory except suspension and factory wheels but a little wider. I want the car to appear as if it were built in the early 60's if I can pull it off..... And if anyone doesn't look underneath! The 55 has always been my favorite. They have a mean look even in factory form. Dustin
55 for me. My uncle still has his original 57 2 door hardtop he bought brand new. Only has 58,000 miles Black over red with the 283/powerglide. It still looks brand new.
I like all three. My Dad had a '56 210 2 door hardtop when I was a wee lad. I can appreciate the cleaner lines of the '55. The '57 just oozes with a kind of working mans opulence. Here's mine:
I have had at least one of all three. I now own a 56 just because its the last one I bought and I had had 55s and 57s and wanted to build a 56. After owning all 3 years, I would prefer the 57.
My '57 which has been sitting at a friend's house getting an engine swap for at least the past 3 years. Maybe next year I'll get on him to finish it. When it gets back, It's going to get the same treatment I gave my dad's 56 in the thread below. http://jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=753008
My favorites are: The 1955 from the movies Two Lane Black Top & American Graffiti. But a close second is PHR's 1957 Project X....before its current make over.
'55 is my fave. The fins on the '56 & '57 look too "cruiser". The '55 is sleek and looks like its made to go fast; think Falfa's '55. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
My first old car was a '57 Bel Air. It was a 4 door, but I always dreamed of building a 2 door hardtop. I don't think nearly enough people realize just what beautiful customs the 57 could make. Absolutely incredible lines. One day I will own one.
