Never really done a build thread. I guess this will be more of a post build thread. The truck is on the road, but not done. So here goes......
This is my brother and me with the truck around 1971.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379934626.887508.jpg
The truck never spent a day inside until about '93 when it was put in the barn. This was first daylight in many years.

HRP, this truck has been in the family for nearly 44 years. Here's a pic of Dad using it as a scaffold while painting the house in about '74. It still has specks of white paint all over it. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1379946996.495737.jpg

It's a '50. I learned to drive in this old truck. When my Dad first talked to me about doing the truck, I agreed under one condition: the truck would remain unchanged on the outside. I wanted to keep battle scars and all. Only structural rust would be repaired. I wanted the truck to look like it did when I was a kid.

A little rust can give a truck character. This truck has a lot of character.

The front floor, kick panels, inner and outer cowl, and cab mounts were completely gone. What was still there would literally crumble up in your hands.

First thing to do was build a support structure for the cab and then repair the bottom of the door post as it was gone from the hinge down on the passenger side. The door would drop an inch and a half when opened.

In this pic you can see one 2x4 leg of the support structure.

Awesome that you can do this build with your son and dad. All three of you will be proud of the time spent together and most likely have some good stories to share afterwards.
    Good luck.

This is great. Always liked these trucks. I learned to drive in a 50.
Later Dad and I installed a 261 in it. Would scoot along for then.
There were several of us who drove to school under 16 ,who would race on the dirt roads. They always wondered why my 235 ? was faster than theirs. Never told them.

  25. Looks a lot like my 51 with all the rust damage, but you're moving along faster than I am. Nice work. I'll be watching this one.

willymakeit, I learned to drive in this very truck. In fact, four generations of my family have driven this truck. To represent my Grandfather, who is no longer with us, we're going to letter the doors with the name of the company he used to work for.

Floor pans, kick panels, inner cowl panels installed. You can see where the rust extended above the pans.

The frame was rusted completely into behind the cab on the driver side, so another frame was located which was damaged in another area. We decided to use the best of both. That meant completely dissecting the frame.
    Grinding rivets.
