Has anyone used the "Fake Patina" paint from Cumberland Products Inc? Found this picture on another website. this is the look I'm kinda wanting on my 37 Ford Pickup. I've emailed the company and hopefully they will get me some info on the paint.
Any pros and cons to this paint that ya'll know of?

Fake patina is like putting a potato in your Speedo. Just remember the potato goes in the front not the back.

It's your truck - do what you want with it, but in my opinion no pros - all cons.
Fake is fake and most hot rodders will see it as fake. If that is what you want then go for it.
It's kind of like those "fake" bullet hole stickers.

Natural ageless patina can never be faked or duplicated.
    It's real or it isn't.

    yup, it looks fake alright.
Even from a photo it does not look correct. I would avoid it. If you really want that look, sand it down, and leave it outside over the winter.

  8. Some dudes don't like primer spots, nor have real cash to bubble gum dip their ride in new. If one wants different then satin black, red oxide, or grey....seems reasonable to go for a marbled/twisted/fukd' up/old paint retreat....so to speak. Fake to me is trying to fool someone at Barrett Jackson......rather then just a preference for what he wants to ride with.

They have variety in sample sizing. Buy a small batch and check it out. Hard to match what you already have pre-existing though. Maybe hit the whole truck with it....crank your scuffing elbows over the whole of it all...and set that sucker outside for a season or three. Best of both worlds then....if one is vying for some sort of protection and patina. I get the thoughts of scrunge and fun....rather then polish and pamper.....but to do so for whatever reason is yours and yours alone. Get it !!

Some people like the patina on my truck but the only reason I have it is because I'm currently underfunded. It's gotten so bad, I don't attend shows anymore, only cruise-ins.

this may be an unpopular response, but why on earth do people want their cars to look worn and neglected? isn't hot rodding about making vehicles better not shittier???

  15. That fender looks like the truck has being lovingly washed and cleaned so much the paint has gotten thin,,,I can live with that look.

But as others have said, the fake stuff looks fake..but it's your truck. HRP

Ha ha! Best reply yet! And I just started reading. Patina? we don't need no stinking patina! Isn't that what the artsy schmartzy people look for in an old car? I say leave it like it is or give it a NEW paintjob and leave it sit outside for 20 years, now that's patina(i hate that word)!

My Nomad gets a nice patina every few years, and before I remember that all the cool kids have it, I buff it out. When will I learn?

Leave it the way it is if you want it to look old and weathered- the fake paint thing is kind of in "no man's land" I think- not stock, custom, hot rod, street rod (sorry), it's just..... well it's just fake(kinda like those big "fuel injection" covers you can put over your 4 bbl (????)Don't mess with Mother Nature!

The only thing worse than fake patina is when they clear over it.

Does fake patina include lettering truck doors with old speed shop logos?

I've seen this car and I'm not sure I'd call it fake patina. It's an unusual paint job for sure, but in person it looks damn good. And yea, as someone else said you don't just point the sprayer at the car and this finish comes out. There is one hell of a lot of work to get this result. And another thing, if you have the talent you can do it with any brand of paint.

Fake patina is not cool, fake titties however have their own special appeal :D
Real titties are better still :D
