    When unusual things like this happen, it generally relates to a bad ground somewhere. The two main grounds on your truck are battery to body and body to engine. Make sure they are in place and working. I think the rest of the ground system is through the body so any rusted sheet metal could cause a problem. The usual suspect for "no headlights" is the dimmer switch but your's seems okay. You may also want to have another go at the firewall connector.
