Originally i had planned on Vega steering but when requesting pixs here, i was demeaned for considering such a travesty. So decided to try the 1953-56 F100 since i can allways do the Vega later. Heres what i learn:
    1) dont use the 1948-1952 F1 steering box as it is diferent, it has the the steering shaft below the sector instead of atop like the original 33-34 box. Unless you like your steering wheel up against the windshield and the column low between the pedals.
    2) don't buy a F100 steering box out of a 'field truck' especially if the hood was gone.
    3) you probally going to need the epensive rebuild kit unless you reel lucky. I got by with replacing only the seal and outer sector shaft bushing (then reaming it with a brake hone). PS the replacement seal don't fit the recess very tight at all.....i am using black moly grease not heavy oil.
    4) you have to cut the flange off the F110 box and fabricate and weld on a replacement flange to get the F100 steering box into the frame far enough and away from the flathead exhaust. You still going to have to modify the driver's header.
    5) yu can retain your light/horn switch on the bottom of the F100 box with some additional fab.
    6) If you are runnning 600-16 on '35 wheels and juice brakes on 37-48 spindles, probally you will have to limit the left turn travel so not to have the driver's tire rub the drag link. Note the original 33-34 pitman arm how it tucks inward under the frame somewhat, so as to give more tire clearance...try to duplicate that with your modified F100 Pitman arm.
7)The '53 box i used had a cast number of 3C303 and a lock-to-lock of 5 1/4 turns but all said and done i have 3 1/2 turns lock-to-lock on the steering wheel. The original 33-34 box had about 4 1/4 turns L-L on the bench and 3 1/2 turns L-L in the car. See #6.
    8) "only" took a couple weeks work but i'm slow. DSCF2588.JPG DSCF2589.JPG DSCF2590.JPG DSCF2592.JPG DSCF2593.JPG DSCF2594.JPG DSCF2595.JPG DSCF2596.JPG

Great story, looks good. I used a 37 Hudson box with a 34 pitman and split 32 bones on my deuce pu and finally settled on a long shank 7/16 fine thread mag lug nut used as a spindle stop so my 500/16 tires didn't rub the bones. Found them at a tire store.
