Well I decided to go the F100 front brake plan on the 40. I just didn't feel comfortable with this car 70 mph with stock brakes ....... I should say slow downs because that's about all they were good for! ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459634604.242021.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459634618.008256.jpg

  2. About 35 years ago I put F100's on the front of my 40 sedan, which stopped so-so the first couple of stops. But after running through a stop sign with hot, faded brakes, I got scared. What a difference! Like power discs. If you weren't expecting it, you would be against the dash.

I used those brakes on the front of my Model A. Stops good, will lock up and slide if you want it to. The A is lighter than a forty though. Has eight inch Ford rear brakes. Used a Mustang dual master cylinder as well

Used them many of times , tradition Hot Rod stuff !

  8. I keep looking for an easy up grade for the closed drive rear, meaning over the counter parts like the front F-100 , not to mention the price. So far nothing.

Not sure but I think 47 truck

  10. '47 truck are Lockheed, same as '42-'48 car.

Pretty easy to put F-1/F-100 front plates on the rear, add some 11" Bendix e-brake hardware, weld in some tubes for the stock cables, turn down the hubs here and there, and use F-1 drums.

  13. Yes; 31 Coupe has the application; self adjuster kits are H2540 & H2541. Also should make another adjuster slot in the L/H plate.

Rich really knows this stuff, he helped me big time with my F250/45 fin Buick brake conversion years ago.
    Thanks again Rich.

Update , here are some part numbers you may want to know about if you are doing this conversion on a stock 39-40. NAPA has a brake hose that adapts from the 40 line at the frame to the F100 wheel cylinder , the part number is 16179 for both sides. Car Quest has a kit that you can use to convert to self adjusting brakes, those numbers are 2540 and 2541. Rich B is the guy here on the HAMB that I bought my loaded backing plates from, and he supp;ies a nice instruction sheet,(with pictures!) that includes the bearing, race and seal part numbers.
