I purchased a rebuilt F1 steering box from one of the big catalog places. My problem is that is has about 4 inches of play in the steering wheel before it turns the wheels of the car. Can anyone help? Is there some way to adjust this thing?? Thanks for the help

There is a cap(that looks like a big nut) on the backside that comes off, under it is a slotted head adjustment screw. You may have to loosen a jam nut then turn the screw clockwise and keep testing the play. If you go too far you will have no play and the car is a bear to keep straight, it needs play so you aren't continually cranking the wheel back and forth. Just turn in in a little at a tilme until you get the play you want.

The adjustment screw pushes the sector roller into the worm gear. Make it tight and you risk destroying them both.

With the axle on jackstands and the wheels straight ahead - make the adjustment Don described.

This adjustment is described in the shop manual - everybody needs one!
