yeah, I know - this topic has been around the block a million times........ but - my current project Model A roadster pickup (highboy) dropped I beam, been gathering up F1 brakes components for my front brakes. a friend calls in, looking over my project and I'm telling him about my F1 front brakes and he comments " I think F100 (53-56) work much better and don't push the front wheels out so far". question: is he right or are my F1 hubs going to be ok ?? help !!!
F-1 front hubs move the wheels about a 1/4" further out per side over F-100 hubs. Nothing to worry about. Plus later model F- 150 rear drums can be used on F-1 hubs at a great cost savings.
Measure the seal boss (where the seal rides), there are two different size seals. I believe it's either 1 1/2 or 1 9/16, I just put the F100 units on a '41 and it was the larger. I noticed that almost all the information out there states only one seal (the smaller one).
where the seal rides on the spindle is 1-9/16 on all `37-`48 spindles as oldtimer said, a lot information recommends a seal that is 1-1/2....i use national part # 473441 that is 1-9/16 fyi......1-9/16 is 1.562
