What about using a vega steering box, anyone done that.

  4. You can buy vega and corvair boxes new believe it or not.

Some of the fellas were using early Mustang boxes a few years back, they can be mounted almost under the toe board and out of the way of everything.

But F-1 or F100 is the way to go. The F-100 boxes are bigger but that is what we used to use all the time.

Ford F1 was only made 48-52.

The Tardell Book has your info.

BTW, F-1, F-2 and F-3 had the same box so you have wider selection to look for.

Also, a lot of the Ford truck guys use a Toyota truck box to replace their original boxes, something to consider.

I am running a t-5 on the flathead, any ideas on that my buddy says I will need to run some f-1 pedals.

  10. 48-52 F-1 is the best swap. 53-56 F-100 and 57-60 F-100 also work. 53-56 and 57-60 are same box. The pitman arm is the difference, 53-56 has the ball stud, and 57-60 has the tapered tie rod end, for the drag link. Both 53-56 and 57-60 have the large pinch bolt. The F-1 uses the same spline as early Ford car with large nut to hold pitman arm on the shaft. F-1 has the ball stud.

Pay your money and make your choice.
