I recently scored an old Evans intake and I was wondering if anyone might know what color he painted the name? There's not much out there about his products. Thanks!
I'll go out on a limb here and say it was whatever those smiling gentlemen decided on. They seem real proud of their handiwork, which looks freshly done. If the Evans parts are like most early speed equipment, they came from the factory unpainted.
@tubman -Well the fella on the left is Earl Evans... most of the pics from the day including a Bell Auto catalog 1950 show all their manifolds with painted letters, V8 and Model A/B. I know Tattersfield and Thickstun came painted new. I thought there might be an old reference somewhere. I think @Dyno Dave is probably right, can't go wrong with red
What I said : "whatever those smiling gentlemen decided on." BTW, how do you know "the fella on the left is Earl Evans..."? A little backup would help. I am not doubting you, but a lot of urban legends circulate in this business.
OK, here's some back up. That is, in fact, Earl Evans himself. The Evans shop was just 3 blocks from our shop in El Monte. Dad and Earl were friends. Dad used Evans heads, and ignitions on our 1/4 midgets. I first met Earl when I was 10 years old. A very nice, soft spoken gentleman.
Nice score and some good history. I'll go with 'lipstick red' too. I can bet that after you paint it, someone will tell you what the 'proper' shade is. I want some of that couch fabric that the boys are setting on! Do I get to see it in action, in September?
@tubman I believe I got that picture from a kustomrama article. @winduptoy -Yessir Larry I'll have it on my roadster at HRHC !
@Okie Pete -My girl tends to wear pinks...HOWEVER-after I rescued my '56 Packard from a hayfield, my son and I were cleaning it out and discovered a cool-looking gold cylinder under the seat. We were puzzling over what it might be and my wife happened to walk by. She rolled her eyes "it's lipstick you guys, geez" Popped the top off and it was RED red...
Nice, Speaking of 'Red' Rick has a new A Roadster build that he painted Red, Red...Stop Light Red. His girl calls it "The Redster"
