A very talented man. If I were to build something like this, I could fit a whole bunch of them in my garage.
There was a guy here on the east coast that built what I think was a 7/8 Chevy pickup. I saw it at Streetrod Nat'l at York. That takes talent very few have.
I was there last year, very nice man, you have to visit his shop to truly appreciate his talents. The man builds these cars with very little equipment and it's a small shop ( working area ) I enjoyed our conversation, showed him pics in my phone of my Merc and he graciously let me sit in his, WOW 5/8 scale is pretty small. His and his helpers make everything to scale literally out of nothing but scrap/junk, their talents are on genius level as builders/fabricators. It's one of the coolest things in the Phoenix area to visit for a car guy.
Reminds me of the Smokey Yunick 7/8 Chevy that kicked everyone’s ass in nascar. Largely responsible for body templates. Crazy work load and Cool.
I look at him getting into that Merc and think about all the guys on here who complain about being tall and fitting into their cars. That man is very flexible. Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I used to live in Arizona, and Ernie was a regular fixture at local car stuff. Back then he mostly drove the dwarf 39 Chevy sedan. Then one day we were somewhere really far away, I think it was Goodguys Des Moines (1500 miles from Phoenix), and Ernie came rolling in the 39. That's when I realized he really drives those cars all over the place!
When he let me sit in his Merc, at time of pic I'm 5'10" #210, got in with some trouble but to get out was pretty funny, my friends had to haul/drag me out, Ernie states, you're not very bending anymore Bud, ( bad case of Arthritis) probably the last old fat guy that he'll let sit in one of his cars. I have a pic of me in it, I look like the hulk, LOL
When snow birding from 2008 to 2019 I became acquainted with Ernie's dwarf cars, always seeking them out at runs and show around the Masa, Apache Junction, Scottsdale and more areas. Truly amazing what he has done and can do. On top of that he is really a great person.
Er, Er, Er, Ernie and the Dwarfs - sounds like an Elton John song. I have seen his work, don't know how he does it or why really but it is amazing.
I've caught Ernie at BTT50s and DesMoines. A really nice guy to BS with. He was sporting his 39 Chevy little car.
is what I thought of as I read the thread "have you ever seen a reverse sectioned custom". Was also reading a thread that went into how much it costs to build a custom car now, we can all learn something from Ernie about doing it yourself, we are still only modifying cars, he is building everything, it's pretty amazing!
