I don't even know if this engine is HAMB acceptable or not but I could use some help IDing it. Here is the story on it. Thanks for any help and please delete if not HAMD friendly.

When I went to pick up the trailer I bought from my buddie's wife she asked me if I wanted an engine that he had bought about 15 to 20 years ago. I paid her what she wanted for it and now I need to know what it is.
I know it is a Chevrolet and I think it is a 327.
Stamped on the passenger side pad is TO503HCR and under that is 724. On the back drivers side are raised GM 3858180. Above that is D21 8. On the rear passenger side is a large 7 and just under it is ?onvey 1(? on the 1).
On the back of the block is a Large Z followed by a T over an H9 then 180 over 810.
One head has GM33 and 8998993 over 1252. The other head has a GM40 and 8998993 over 1262.
That is all the numbers I could find. I can upload pictures later if needed.
There is no carb or distributor but it does have a Weiand Stealth intake on it. It also came with a set of block hugger headers.
When I pulled the valve covers off the rockers and heads were very clean.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

    April 21 1968 casting date

    HC is a 250 hp 327 4bbl Powerglide 8.75 compression

R means it came with a Quadrajet, instead of a Carter or Holley

No 3858180 blocks in 1968...its most likely a 1966 block. Pretty sure the 3 letter application code with a R or H suffix was a 1966 only thing. They started 3 letter codes again in 1970 without such carb related suffix.

I have a similar era 327 with those 993 later heads. My guess is that they did that for unleaded hardened seats. Your casting dates are not 1252 and 1262...its I252 and I262...which is September 25th and 26th of 1972 for a 1973 application.

Check the last digit, they are sometimes difficult to read. If it's a 6 isntead of an 8, that would explain it.

I also thought the R thing was 66 only...

Interesting, so Chevy had both a 327/250 with 10.5 advertised compression and one a few years later with 8.75 compression... Different carbs also..

It is a 6. Just looks like an 8!

What would the 993 heads do to the compression?

The 66 HC engine is 10.5 compression

993 heads would let you drive it on 87, most likely
