'87 5lt SBC in my 35 Chevy tub; and '90 383SBC in my 46 Olds sedanette project. I would have loved to use a 303-394 Olds however they are thin on the ground here
318 Poly in the 1940 Dodge................Anthony.......lol.......both Frod in their Cleveland and Chev in the BBC seem to have copied the Mopar Poly's..........lol..............andyd
My all time favorite mill is a { 327 Chevy }. But I have a 354 Hemi in a 30- A sedan. A 389 pontiac in 29 A- coupe, the { Lo U.F.O. } A 500 caddy in a 27-T coupe, a 350 Chevy in a 34-Dodge sedan delivery, a 327 in a 68 vette, a 327 in a 56 Nomad a 4oo Pontiac in a 67- Bonneville. So I guess, I kinda like-em all.
393 Cleveland (stroked 351C) in the 28 Sport Coupe. Diamond block B in the 30 Town Sedan. Coyote in the 55 Country Squire (unfinished).
I saw the ultimate match up yesterday at the southeast gasser race yesterday. A Falcon with a small block Chevy and a Chevy 2 with a Cleveland. My hot rods usually get what fits best or what I can find. I am not brand conscious.
1955 Cadillac 331 in the ‘29 Model A 1949 Mercury 8CM in the ‘35 Ford pick up 1967 Chevy 327 in the ‘36 Ford Sedan Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
That comment jumped out at me as well. I know the 300's had aluminum heads, but haven't ever heard of one that didn't have an iron block.
I have a Chevy Sprint 1000cc. 3 cylinder in my '34 Austin. Can I call it a small block Chevy? Sent from my SM-T350 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I didn´t choose a lot, but I repaired quite a few engines. My 62 Impala came with its original 283 and it is still in there, the 56 Bel Air already had the 327 , I just took it to 331cui , the Riviera has its 425 nailhead, the 55 210 its 235 sixxer. The 40 Ford runs a 59AB. The 34 already came with the 312 Y that ran well but needed some repairs... I like all different kinds of engines, but my all out personal favorite are Chevy 283/327s.... My girlfriends 52 suburban will get a 327 and the 53 Chevy Gasser will have a 4" bore 283. ( If I ever have the funds and live to that day I ´ll have the time to build it) I have never built a flathead yet, but I got a spare dissassembled 59AB with the 40 Ford . Alone the 3 piece valve guides scared me to death. Why would somebody build something like that?? Hahaha, life is a learning curve.
472 Caddy in the Model A and stock flat 6 in the Hudson. Hudson engine works great as built so why change it.
After many years of nothing but SBC's I'm now back with my second Pontiac. The first one was a 400 C.I. the current one is a 65 389 C.I. thats .030 over , cammed up with an FI Tech fuel injection. Very happy with its performance so far. The engine has right at 300 miles on it. Forgot how much these Poncho's pull. Gary
I've had a 50 Ford panel with an Olds 394, several 56 & 57 Fords with Y-blocks and FE's, a few Flatheads, and some O/T cars with big-block Chryslers and small-block Fords. Presently working on a '40 Ford sedan and a '31 A roadster with a Cadillac in both. Basically have always followed the ABC's of hot-rodding...
292 with Lots of finned aluminum, 4 barrel and cast headers for the 48. 8BA for the 31 Vic if it ever gets finished to the point where I can drive it. That's because that is the way I envisioned it from the get go and I had the engine before I had the body. If I just went with my Favorite engines it would either be Olds 350R or Ford Y block. If I hadn't found the flathead in good shape I would probably have put together a Y block for the Model A as I just flat love the way they sound with glass packs.

After some reengineering years ago, it still runs great but is due for a freshening. I put a 350 crate engine in my 59 Edsel project, and the rest of my stuff is powered by the factory running gear (292 in my 59 Galaxie, 390 4v in my 64 Thunderbird).
