So should I drill the newly painted mounting holes out to fit the emblems back in or should I cut the posts of the emblem and use some 3m double sided tape? Decisions decisions!
The tape will look bad, draw and hold moisture and dirt, and peel off on one of those runs down the road... I agree with prewarcars4me on this one.
Agreed. Do it right the first time...so you don't have to do it a second time. Jonnie www.legends.thewwbc.net
Should have all holes clean prior to paint. Are they just painted over or are they welded? Now when you drill them out you'll have a perfect spot to start corrosion.
Just remember to put a little touch up paint inside the holes after you drill them out to keep them from rusting...but you already knew that.
just had one fall off a car i bought when i went through a pothole, just droll them and put tape on the back and the bolts. double assurance
I take a dab of paint on each of the mounting pins, then place it against the fender where you want it to go. Each pin will leave a small dot marking where it needs to be drilled. Just go easy with the drill, don't reef on it and drive the chuck into your paint once the bit cuts through. ---John
Be careful with the drilling though as any filings that hit on paint will burn into the paint. It's especially a problem when drilling over fenders that stick out. I'd mask the area below the spot where the emblem goes off to keep any drill filings off the paint.
