What's a guy to do when the turn signal has an intermittent short? The wires go into rubber (or butyl, or whale blubber, or bakelite, or fuckifiknow), and if you push in on the rubber, the turn signals start working...let up, and they stop. The local Cadillac only wrecking yard is pretty picked bare, and it's not like J.C. Whitney has them on sale. Damn them for changing _everything_ every single year. Are there any services that'll renew existing oddball, nearly one of a kind, parts like this? (Mostly because any ebay scores are equally likely to have electrical issues, now or in the future.)
If you found where to wiggle it to cause the problem the hard part is done! Are you talking about where the wires go into the bulb socket,if so you can clean tham up or get a rebuild kit for a couple of bucks.
sounds like a intermittent connection. what year? if you can not open it up you may have to track a replacement down. or go with a different style. even if you can get it open it might be wore out. the contacts might be to thin. there real basic if you can get them open.
I'll try to get a photo on here. It's like they solder the wires to the bulb socket, then fill the area with rubber to weatherproof it. I don't know if it can be cut or cooked out. It's a 66 Cadillac Fleetwood, and it's a problem at the front and back of the car, Driver's tail light and passenger front turn signal, so it's something I've gotta do at least twice, but it wouldn't surprise me if one of the other lights did it sooner rather than later, the car burnt out 5 or 6 bulbs within the first 200 miles of getting it back on the road.
If you have the room to do so, cut the thing apart and connectorize it using a comercially available connector. Most electrical supply houses and anywhere that sells trailer accessories should have something for you, possibly pre-wired on both ends, so all you have to do is splice it in. Bob
These pics are only worth a couple hundred words. Looking at the indicator more closely, it looks like I can completely disassemble it. Further, I'd bet that side contact is the culprit: When I get time, I'll pull the taillight back apart and see if it's similarly put together. (and I have no reason to believe it's not)
