Quick question from a fng: Can original switches (ignition or headlight) be safely used when converting from 6 to 12 volts? I'm rewiring my '49 Ford completely, but I'd like to use the original switches on the dash. If I can't use them, are their any cool alternatives?

    Thanks,

Simple answer is yes,12 volts require half the amps of 6 volts to do the the same job.So if the switches are in good shape ,should be no problems.

  3. Switches don't know or care about volts, all that matters with a switch is amps. As long as the switch is in good condition it'll be fine.

Converted my 53 in 1992. Still the same switches, right down to the heater blower motor switch...

Yes those 6 volt switches handle more amperage than most 12 volt switches.
