I thinking about buying a Electric cutoff kit. I have read of people having problems with the electric motors or bad sealing / closing on the shutoff.
Has anyone have a kit, manufacturer that you are happy with and would recommend?
    Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thx

  3. Can't you just make cutoffs from an old pair of jeans and scissors?

I have a single QTP electric butterfly dump on my truck. It's leaking a teeny, tiny little bit now, but after 6 years that little bit doesn't bother me. I've thought of sending it back to the mfg to "recalibrate" it to the fully closed position (assuming they actually do that), but until it gets really tiresome I can't see taking my rod off the road to do that. I'd think that there are better ways to spend 350 buckos on your rig than electric exhaust cutouts unless you plan some serious street racing.. Guess what I am actually saying is that is it worth 350 bucks to you to be able to run open exhaust at a rod trot or cruise night in hope of impressing a couple of mouthbreathers in their world of wrestling tank tops?

I put a set on my truck by Race Ready Performance six years ago with no leaks yet. . But , I'm not really one of those hey, look at me guys . I very seldom open them up. In hindsight I would be $550 ahead right now. Bill

In my case, an uncorked V-6 with a stock cam sounds pretty much like a tractor. But if I had a hot motor and wanted it to cackle now and then, or hit the strip for a little Wednesday night test n tune, every uncorked hp helps, eh? Gary

I have a set of the Doug's headers cutouts on my 442, work nice, sound mean. Caution: If you run a 9:1 motor they will sound like a fat woman farting on a pier in the fog. The olds is 11.5:1, sounds stupid loud and throaty. Heard many sets of cutouts that just make us all laugh. Think twice before wasting your money.

  17. Seems like you'd need a bit of extra duration on the cam, too.

    Shit.
    Bout lost it right there.

  21. Electric cut-outs just sound Gold Chain'er to me. Mine are live and hot all the time and take about 2min to manually open them when I want more noise. About the same time to re cap them but ya don't want to do that till it cools off just a bit.

Bet you'll find 99.99% of electric cut outs are installed on Streetrods by Posers. A car with a decent engine doesn't need open headers to sound bad.

I call the cutout switch "the good neighbor button". I stuck the Doug's cutouts on there for Wednesday night bracket racing but they're getting old. Negligible gain in HP, great reason for a "probable cause" pull over and if you open them at a cruise-in on grass or gravel be prepared for an angry mob of car-duster wielding townsfolk.

You guys sound like cutouts serve no real purpose, I don't agree, they cover up the whine of "noisy" gear drives.

I have to agree..I like to hear my engine's rump-a-rump and the exhaust "chinking" in the header pipes and a slight low rumble out the tail pipes...

  27. This is my version of a cut-out........
