History El Mirage Colour photos from 1948-49!

    I've seen these pictures a bunch of times, and always wondered what color some of these cars really were.

  2. Those pics, have to be the best quality, colour photos ever seen from the lakes! Thank You Jimmy, Superfleye, and of course Jill Durkee-Burgoyne. Hopefully Jill, finds us here on the HAMB, and comes to know, how very much appreciated, her late father's fine pictures are. I'd say it is inevitable, that this thread, is destined for the Jalopy Journal main page. Then all we need is a "historic thread" archive, alongside the "Tech" and "Art Show"!

    This would be cool to have an archive of shots with descriptions and such. Maybe by year and racing genre. I think it's a good idea.

    Thanks so much for posting these. I can't get over the quality of the pictures and the clarity of the colors. I could spend hours just examining the details. Great thread!! More!! More!!

    I agree totally, there is kind of a historic archive Hot Rods of The Dry Lake Era

    racing Genre and decade would work best.

    Great to see these in color - never knew Spalding bros. roadster was orange! Thought everyone dressed in shades of grey 'til the 60's...:D

    man its crazy to think ive riden my dirtbike over the same dirt these cars have. its also cool as hell to be able to tell exactly where they are on the lake. thanks for posting.
