I need a truck for hauling crap around now that I'm a home owner and all. Thinking about picking one up. Anyone got some decent 1958-1960 El Camino pics for inspiration?

1959 was the first year for the El Camino.

  3. Here are a few pics of a local factory 409 4spd parts/beer chaser, that was sold off last year

409 didn't come out until late '61. Maybe it was a 348? Interesting car with the 64-66 T-bird hood scoop grafted on.

1958 El Caminos with factory 409s are very rare.
PS, I need a radiator for a 1963 Corvair Monza.

Not really, I've got three of them stashed in my storage right now, they are blocking anyone from trying to get at the Hilborn Streamliner and the lost Ark of the Covenant I have hidden in there.

Thats what I thought. Chevy didn't make an "el camino" till 59.
The 409 was put out onto the market in 61 to combat the Ford 390.

The only thing I can think of is that these so called 58 El Caminos
were really 59 models that were made in late 58. But they never
    would have had a 409.

That "58" looks like someone made an El Camino out of a 58 wagon or something. I still don't think that Chevy offered one in 58.

I have seen some cars that had the dealer option for the "truck" conversion. But it was just that, a non original conversion.

I would love to see a brochure from 58 that has the El Camino.

I love being proved wrong. It means I am learning something.

My favorites are 1955 Ford Rancheros, so cool.

  19. You are right, I didn't pay attention to the original motor, but the factory 4spd stands out because the line of "restorers" wanting the trans hump out of it - all stabbing each other in the back over a factory hole! Weird elco with some odd options for a "truck".

The 409 in the picture was a transplant, the owner had a few at the time, I remember one of the better ones ended up with a HAMBer in colorado.

and it is a mid 60's T-bird hood scope

The 409 and a later close ratio 4spd made it a little expensive on tires, until then I'd never driven anything that would go all the way thru the gears and not bite.

entirly possible.....SOME states , when they were 1st sold, titled them whatever year they were sold...
as in, if you bought a new whatever in october of 58, it was titled as a 58.
if you bought the same car in january, it would be a 59...

Ah, ok. I don't tend to pick up on that stuff to well.

Thats what I was thinking. That seems to make the most sense.

I love the look of the 59-60 elky but in reality they are half car and half truck and the worst half of both. They can't haul people or a load. That being said I'd still buy another one, I just would use it for fun.
