I have a 61 econoline with a 144 and three on the tree, im looking for an automatic transmission for it. I found a 66 van with a 240 and an automatic. would this trany bolt right up to me 144. If this doesnt work what would.
I'm pretty sure that's the case, but I would ask Squirrel if I were you. He's helped me out in the past.
240's gonna have the small block bell bolt pattern I believe. You need to look for something with a falcon 6 in it, 170, 200, etc... The 250 is in that series, but it has the bigger small block pattern too. A 6cyl falcon/mustang or a 70's fairmont, zephyr might be a good starting point.
THUNDERBIRDESQ nailed it. This same topic came up about a week ago with a falcon owner with a leaky trans. Quite a number of us chimed in. That earlier post had a lot of good info in it. I would refer you there, but, with the search ability down at the moment, I can't find where it is. I'll get back with you if I can find it again.
FOUND IT! Look on page # 25...Sprout started a thread titled "Falcon Trans???". That should help you out.
Dude, i picked up a 64 Econoline that has a 71-74 Torino 250 swap in it. Mine hauls ass with the C4 behind it. Its a good runner. From what im told, the 240 and 300 are based on the same block. The 250 is actually a smaller motor than the 240 and it has gobbs of torque. Ive heard that the 240/300 is quite a big job for the swap. The 250 drops in with little effort. Id definately go with the 250. Mine fuckin hauls ass!
240/300 and the 250 are not based on the same block. the 250 is also a kick-arse motor. Does the other econoline has all the bits to do the conversion to the 240? If so the swap should be straight forward.
