Technical Early SBC freeze plug size when removing oil draft

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by BOSTONCAMARO, Apr 17, 2022.

  1. Hello All,

I searched threads and cannot find.

I need to know the size and where to buy a freeze plug that will fit in the top of an early SBC 265 283 327 that has the oil draft tube.

I am going to eliminate it on a couple motors I have, thanks in advance!

Measure it. But why? With the draft tube mount you can have rocker covers with no holes like early Chevrolets especially the 62 327’s

  3. You know that bushing on the top of the shock absorber? Rubber with a 3/8" hole through it? Thread a bolt into the hole, little rtv around the edge, and tap it in :D but I'm a hack, I didn't wanna wait to go get one of those expanding rubber plugs

  4. I have seen actual metal freeze plugs in some blocks for this, so want to find one like that

  5. Yeah I believe they're 1.25". I work at night when everything is closed, and I'm always in a rush

Inch and a quarter is the size you need.

  7. To hook up a PCV I once took a freeze plug, and drilled the center then welded a 2 inch steel tube as a nipple, and used it to run the PCV hose to.

I thought that was where you put the pcv valve? That way you did not have to have any holes in your valve covers.
