Technical Early producation '32 rear end rebuild help, please

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by alumcantandthd, Apr 2, 2024.

  1. Does anyone know of a person or place within a couple hundred miles or so, (easy driving distance for a couple of old farts) of north central WV that has the tools and knowlege to rebuild (change gear set, bearings and seals, anything else wore out, set the bearing pre load and gear back lash, etc) on a (round flange) '32 rear end? Please. Thanks

Your local model a club can probably help you rebuild the rear. The early 1932 fords are basically a model a rear with the the drive shaft going thru the pinion gear.
So settling preload would be the same as a A rear pinion shims. As the ring will be set (wear marks or pattern) banjo pumpkin gaskets acting as shims.

  3. Thank you. I had contacted a couple of Model A clubs/chapters up in Pittsburgh Pa. I either got a 'run-a-round' or, 'we send them out to St Louis to get them built' or a thousnad dollar extra charge added because, "it's a '32" .

There has to be someone (retired? in a private garage) that still has the tools and experience on rebuilding the banjo rear ends, in a 3 state (Eastern Ohio, Western Pa, Western Md) couple hundred mile radius of North Central WV! Just got to find one by word-of-mouth.
