Hello I hope somebody can tell me a little more about the accessories on early chrysler hemi and polysphere motors. Searched, but can only find interchange info for the internal parts. Here's the deal, I have a 392 hemi with no accessories. Planned to run a BBC water pump and LA style balancer. Shortly, I'll be taking some other parts off a 56 chrylser that has a complete 331 polysphere sharing the hemi block. Is there anything on that engine I should take, like the pulleys, brackets, etc? Or is it futile with my water pump? Or is it just futile between hemi and poly? Or futile 331 to 392? Will that oil pan fit my 392? Thanks!
I don't think the pullies will work but you can see if they will line up. I did the BBC pump and LA dampener and bought new pullies for my 392. There is no provision for a mechanical fuel pump with the timing cover you need to make the water pump work. Make sure the dampener is keyed right so your timing marks line up correctly. Good luck with your 392, nothing like an old hemi.
Thanks Andy and 4tford. Going to put the valley cover and distributor on my list. Starting to wonder if I should just try to buy the engine. Man what a hassle to get it out though. My tins are pretty rusty, would be nice to upgrade. 4tford, I'm using the BBC long style water pump, which allows a stock timing cover and mechanical fuel pump.
