As the title states, I see lots of info for getting a side mount SBC into a 41-48 Chevrolet... However, I am wondering about the early motors with front mounts. I have a 283 4bbl motor from a 57 that would be a good candidate for this car and keep the late 50's early 60's vibe I am going for.. I'd assume fab up some mounts and use stock 55-57 type stuff to make it fit? I know this had to be done back in the day... What was done?

Yep it was done a lot before side mounts came to be...In fact Hurst made a front mount that uses flathead Ford motor mount biscuits...

  4. Might run into an issue running the stock fuel pump. Real 57 283 has no side mount boss I think

Correct I can modify the hurst style mount to make that work. Correct NO side mounts on a 57 v8.

  6. The front mounts for SBC were still available from marine supplies a few years ago.

  10. ...if you go with front mounts, you should also use bellhousing mounts,...not just a trans tailhousing mount
