As the title states, I see lots of info for getting a side mount SBC into a 41-48 Chevrolet... However, I am wondering about the early motors with front mounts. I have a 283 4bbl motor from a 57 that would be a good candidate for this car and keep the late 50's early 60's vibe I am going for.. I'd assume fab up some mounts and use stock 55-57 type stuff to make it fit? I know this had to be done back in the day... What was done?
Yep it was done a lot before side mounts came to be...In fact Hurst made a front mount that uses flathead Ford motor mount biscuits...
Thanks to an old post by Black Panther: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/hurst-cradle-type-motor-mount.1020656/#post-11539849 I found these photos:
Man I don't know how I missed this post! Great Photos. I'm thinking about fabbing some up of my own. I'm on the search for some at this point, I missed a set on eBay two weeks ago, auction ended before I found them.
...if you go with front mounts, you should also use bellhousing mounts,...not just a trans tailhousing mount
