Ditto. Bass' car just screams hot rod! Especially when the pedal is mashed!

"Flying Clouds" and "Cow Cars"...lol. I saw a lot of cars like that too as a kid in the early/mid 60s. A neighbor had a late '40s Ford bus. coupe that had multiple colors of primer on it, and it struck me as kinda lookin' like a "Clown Car"...lol. I liked it though.

Another guy a couple of streets down, must've restored 1/2 dozen late '50s early '60s Vettes. He'd drive 'em with big spots of primer too. The spots would magically change over time, and then all of a sudden...a finished car in beautiful red with white coves.

I like to think of mine as a custom, but I guess it could be a hot rod too.

I know the look of my dad's 51 does not fit the intent of this post with its gasser stance but I could see it fitting the image if it was photoshopped with a nose down rake tucking the top of the front tires and bumper added back on. its pure hotrod and has heritage of being a show car in the 50's and converted to a racer in the 60's This car gives me inspiration for my 51 chevy (probably one of the reasons I bought my ride)

so what is the ultimate rim to use on a early 50's chevy to get a 60's hotrod vibe. is the chrome reverse steel wheel, the straight spoke non polished americans or maybe a set of ???? (halibrand for the deeper wallets)

    what is your preference...

Yes to all of the above! If I had to nail down a preference, it would be the American or Halibrand options.

I'm a 5 spoke kind of guy. the plan for my 49 chevy is low, no rake, 14 x 7 old Americans with a tire a bit skinnier than what is recommended. with redwalls if I happen to be pissing money when tire time rolls around.

if I were shitting money I'd go with the small window "Halibrands" they are making nowadays

Boones, I answered that a bit quickly and with out much explanation.
It would really depend on what era you were looking to place the car in. Chrome reverse, were big between about '58 - '62 or 3. From about '60 or '61, on feature cars you start to see the Halibrand small window wheels and some five spokes. I may be disputed by some, but the large window Halibrands (or "Sprint") seemed to appear later, about '64 or '65 or so. After '65, tons of Cragar S/S wheels on everything. One thing I have noticed over the years of looking at old pictures mostly from Santa Anna, Prior to '58, there seemed to be a trend of painting steel wheels white and running without whitewalls or caps of any sort. Don't know if anyone else has ever noticed that... Oh, prior to '61, seemed like lots of street driven hot rod type cars ran full Moon caps too.

  27. Pretty sure I haven't posted these here yet. Unfortunately, I don't have them anymore.
