I was reminded today of how much I like radials and dislike bias ply tires driving down a grooved and rutted section of Glendale road... You couldn't pay me to run bias plys on anything but a full on fenderless traditional car...

56 Victoria 428cj 11:1 compression, aluminum heads, and lets just say a lot of other modifications ...no power steering, no power brakes, no heater, no A/C, no power anything-

  11. Not sure if my truck fits. I was shooting for a 60s era build, dropped axle, bias ply white walls, full caps. Hopefully I can finish the paint someday. Its got custom touches but I designed it to be all business.

^^^Killer rake. If you put mags on it, then it will look tough. What is your engine?

  13. Its a hot little 305 small block that is disguised as a corvette engine. Vette valve covers, short waterpump, breather 4 barrel intake. Many guys on this site would call it cookie cutter, but it was cheap and its fast. The master plan would be to have a hemi.

I also have old slotted mags for the rear but none for the front. I much prefer the whitewalls.

Ok. It stated 'not custom' in the thread, but it is flavored as such. But you were unsure. It happens. Lets bench race a second. Hemi is e'var where now a days it seems. How about a 413 w/log ram cross ram, push button trans, posi, pie crust on deep (both ways inset/offset chrome reverse wheels? White tuck and roll or pleated interior. Chrome tach on the dash. Anyhow cruise this rig, it is rare to see!

Mine is more hotrod than custom, although I love customs. No hood, raked a little bit, 327, fun little car....

The following applies to most build's, especially budget-entry level attempts.
Besides a tight suspension (fresh rebuild) a sway bar (as big as will fit) quality shocks (Monroe Sens-a-trac minimum) lowered slightly (3") all around. Higher Quality brakes are always mandatory when driving an ancient car in modern traffic conditions. The guys who have done/do this can help with real world part numbers/approach and feedback.

my gpa and his hot rod shoebox back when he was in his 20s. i think it bothers him that his grandkids are more into the custom side of cars.

Aaron Lobato built a 53/54 Chevy that was more hot rodded. It was blue (not his green one). He had some pie crust slicks hiding behind the fenderwells that got my attention. I'll dig up a pic.

Also saw a 55? Third at the hot rod reunion. Guy shoe-horned an injected 392 under the hood. Cut down the stacks to keep from cutting the hood. Too damn cool.

That's really a good looking coupe. With a hood, paint, and more interesting wheels & tires, it would be a knockout!

  27. Awesome thread, this 58 kinda fits.
