We have a bunch of them on our race roadster, and they work, and they can be a pain in the butt when lining up the over 13 on the hood, the 12 on the tonneau, and the 16 or so on the deck lid, as we have to show up in inspection with everything off for the inspectors (and we are Inspectors). Oh yea and the ones on the wheel covers,,,,,

This is George Cambell, the original builder of our car, which we had the motor,,,,

I wasn't sure if you were thinking of using some, or just taking a survey. Anyway...

You can buy little prefabricated tabs to weld to the chassis or roll bar, or make your own, different types... some retain themselves to the panel, some don't. A crude little jig for drilling the spring holes. Not nearly as nice as the tool above!. I always had good luck with the moroso springs and at time I could get them local. Good luck.

We are using them on this build. Henry thought it woul give it a nice clean look. I don't have a close up shot. The second pic shows the brackets on the inside.

Came from the factory on my '52 Jag fender skirts. On the front they attach to the body inside the door lip.

Hey Marty, any idea where a guy might purchase a set of those dies for punching the 3 hole Dzus spring plates?
Anyone else out there know where to get these dies? Many outfits sell the standard Dzus dimple die sets, but I haven't been able to find the dies for dimpling out a spring plate like Marty has shown in his post above.

I don't know the who manufactured the one I have, so I can't be of any help to you. In the last few weeks, I have been using it quite a bit. Mounting a fiberglass tail on a Watson style Indy car for the street. Also, I have a friend in Illinois who is building a narrow lakes modified, and wanted me to make him some aluminum tabs to mount his hood the the cowl and nose. I went him one better, and made him some rails with the holes where he wanted them. Now, all he needs to do is shrink the flanges to fit the silhouette of his cowl and nose and joint them in the middle. IMG_9704.JPG IMG_9730.JPG IMG_9819.JPG IMG_9810.JPG

All I know it’s a pain to use the one with a nut and bolt but battery socket tool sure help. The 2 for the rivets with a hammer and punch threw a block of hard wood are a pita.

  9. Fugin ugly?? You sir have a far different idea of ugly than me, and every American that has ever built a race car.

While my ‘32 came to me with 4 matching Dzus buttons holding her aluminum hood top, over the last 50 years of running ; she has ended up with 3 different style ones out of the 4. 03CBFF78-8671-45F7-9C2A-66F6CF924D11.jpeg A274C019-D565-491A-A5B9-E6C2699B761A.jpeg C6A4279C-EFF8-4758-97BB-D5740E2B971B.jpeg

What is a good way to mount the springs? I'm using 6-32 machine screws and nuts and think there must be something better.
