I'm wanting to finish my frankland build and wanted to install the gears. Here's the dumb question were does the larger tooth gear go for highway driving top or bottom. I was thinking bottom. Also do I need to add a shim between gear and bearings. And what's the best gear lube to use thanks Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Big gear on the bottom. Higher gear ratio. Great for El Mirage. Big gear on top. Lower finial drive ratio. Better for the drags
Here's that word...the "best" again..! Any synthetic will serve you well. Look into what Winters recommends if you want expert advice. Mike
There are charts available to determine your final drive ratio with a set of gears ( they come in a set of 2 and MUST be used together), and usually include figures for at least a couple of rear diff. ratios. And yes big gear on bottom yields lower numerical figure in final drive ratio.
