A few build photos of what I’ve been putting together over the past year. I’m ready to finish up the engine and get this thing running!
Cool! Looks like you're doing some really nice work. As much fun as it is to just see it in the shop wait till you fire it up and the wheels turn under it's own power! I just finished a 145" FED and after quite a few test-n-tune runs we finally raced it. Built if for local bracket racing and it's a lot of fun to see my 20-ish months of work in action. Lynn
I took some inspiration from the Chassis Research K-88 design but a little more updated. Like what I feel I would have built if I built a dragster in 1960.
Mad fab work! Is the transmission considered an ''in/out box''? With high gear only? Super impressive, I could look at dragster design all day.
It’s a 1940s to early 50s Ford three speed with open drive, I think these were basically F1 transmissions. This one will just use second and third, has no first-reverse slider installed. I have another one that I’m going to set up with reverse.
Just like way back when (except they probably used muffler tubing). Marty gave you a thumbs up, Enjoy!!
The original cars had .083 3” tubes which is like driveshaft tubing, and they bent. I used all .120 mild steel, I think it will hold up fine for what I’m gonna do with it.
The original K-88 had an additional, smaller top tube. Ronnie Scrima owned the Albertson Olds chassis, removed the top tube to the chagrin of Scotty Fenn the builder. It obviously worked just fine, they won the Nationals, and many races.
I owned a 120"wb Chassis Research K88 flathead dragster I built with a friend in the mid '60s. Just sold it last fall.
Looks great, very well done. You got Marty's approval so , yea! Can't wait for updates. Keep up the great work. I love FEDS!
